2010 in LA!

Well. I've officially been in LA for 3 months now. Needless to say, I'm having a great time. Making a lot of great connections out here. And I'ma tell you straight up, in this short period of time I've seen the good, bad and the ugly side of LA. The bottom line is, I knew what I was getting into and I'm glad I took this chance and this opportunity to hop down the rabbit hole. I know it's been a while since I jumped on here, but I've been hella busy. There are some great things happening though. The first thing you all should look out for is the release of The Spades LP early next month. Who are The Spades? You ask. Well The Spades aka The Spades in Midnight Malevolence is the name of the duo I belonged to for roughly 11 years. I was rappin wit this dude before we were in High school. Yep, my former partner Indy and I actually did our first professional recording in 1996. It was a song called "Daze Cafe." This song will appear on a full-length album of unreleased material we're gonna drop on iTunes in February. Stay tuned to the site, because in a few days I'm gonna leak about 5 songs from the project. The cd will be entitled "Incredible S.C." The video for the song that the album is named after is on Youtube for your viewing pleasure.
And in other news, ya boy snagged a part on a nationally syndicated radio soap opera "It's Your World." Of course they got ya boy playin a thug lol. Naw, but for real I want to thank the creator Brad Sanders for the opportunity and my girl Monie Mone for introducing me. Check it out on http://www.itsyourworldsoap.com/. S.C. release pushed back. It's all love though...
Yep! The S.C. Release has been pushed back to late July. I'll make sure to let everyone know the exact date and location though. I'm going to enjoy going home and acting up on stage for my folks. I haven't done a show in Columbia, S.C., where I'm from, in almost 5 years. I was still with my old group The Spades back then. Columbia aka The Metro or The Met is a small city. It's been tryin to get it's music and club scene poppin for a minute. It looks like they might finally have something going. We'll see. I hate to say it, but my city is known for being slow.
Most of you are probably much more familiar with Charlotte, N.C., which is almost an hour away from Columbia. Once upon a time, maybe in the early to mid 80's Columbia and Charlotte were neck and neck. They were rival cities especially because they were so close. Well in 2009 you can forget any kind of rivalry, at least between Columbia and Charlotte. Comparing Columbia to Charlotte is damn near like comparing Charlotte to New York, there is NO comparison. Charlotte shot passed Columbia somewhere around the early to mid 90's and never looked back. Though it may have a long way to go Charlotte is slowly joining the ranks of cities like Atlanta and Houston.
One thing I can tell you really hurt the growth of my city and state is that whole Confederate Flag bullshit. International companies make it a point NOT to deal with cities that are stuck in the past. South Carolina aka South Cak has been run by bigots for too long. Even after the death of one of this countries most powerful bigots Senator Strom Thurmond, bigot politicians have still run S.C. into the ground. This is one of the reasons teams like the Carolina Panthers ended up in North instead of South Carolina. Reference The Spades video, which is on this blog and at www.youtube.com/oprolific. We shot parts of that video during a rally to get the Confederate Flag taken off of the state house, while bigots stood 5 feet away shouting with confederate flags in their hands. Peep my song "Rise" too on iTunes and Amazon or wherever you can find it, where I reference the outcome of that battle. It's all love though. As an artist I use art to combat ignorants just as artists always have.
